About This Site

The guide I couldn't find, so I built it.

Go Kawartha Lakes is a one-person, whole-region project: every business researched directly, every guide grounded in actually living on this water.

A person wearing a cap, sunglasses, and a black shirt is driving a boat on a lake under a clear blue sky, with trees visible in the background.

The Story

Why this exists

Ask the internet a simple Kawarthas question — which marinas on Pigeon Lake have covered storage? Where can I actually dock for dinner? What does a pontoon rental cost around here? — and you'd get a mess: stale listings, five-year-old forum threads, and directories run from office towers that couldn't find Bobcaygeon on a map.

I live here. I boat these lakes, I run a web business from cottage country, and I kept hitting the same wall as every visitor and cottager: the information exists, it's just scattered across a hundred small-business websites that nobody has ever pulled together and kept current.

So that became the job: pull it together, verify it, keep it current — and write the guides from the water, not about it.

Go Kawartha Lakes is the result. A directory of hundreds of local businesses with the details that actually matter — who has a gas dock, who winterizes, who you can arrive at by boat — plus comparison guides built from that research, and first-person pieces from someone who’s genuinely out here.

How We Research Listings

Verified, dated, and re-checked

Every listing on this site goes through the same four steps — and wears its verification date so you can judge the freshness yourself.

1

Research at the source

Details come from each business directly — their own published services, hours, and pricing. Not copied from other directories, and never invented.

2

Structured, not scraped

We record facts — gas dock, covered slips, engine brands serviced — as data we can compare across the whole region, which is what makes our side-by-side guides possible.

3

Dated & re-verified

Every listing carries a verification date, and nothing goes more than 90 days without a re-check. Cottage country changes with the seasons; the data has to keep up.

4

Corrected by locals

Spot something wrong? Every page has a report link, every report gets a human look, and most fixes are live within a couple of days.

Editorial Independence

How this site makes money — and what it never affects

Go Kawartha Lakes is supported by local businesses through clearly labeled featured listings and sponsorships. That support keeps the research free for everyone — and it comes with hard rules:

The Go Network

Charting cottage country, one region at a time

Kawartha Lakes is the flagship. The same research-first model is coming to Ontario’s other cottage regions.
